Manners aren’t overrated, but neither is cooling out a little bit and not being easily offended. When I was younger and I used to say hurtful things to my brother, he would remind me, “You don’t hate me, you hate yourself.” While that may have been a little bit harsh as well, it taught me at an early age that that the nasty things that people say are always more of a reflection of themselves than the people they say them to.
