Tigers at Mariners, July 5th

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

R.A. Dickey will throw his junk at the Tigers line-up today in the game three of four. Armando Galarraga is on the mound for the Tigers and sporting an impressive 7-2 recorded with a 3.40 ERA. Hopefully the heat we’ve been feeling in Seattle the past few days will help Dickey’s knuckler flutter a little more than usual.

No news yet about any roster moves, but the Mariners have won eight of their past eleven games, so that’s news enough. It’s hard to tell at this point what impact the Rigglemonster has had, but it’s fair to say that it’s been a positive one.

POST GAME: Mariners come back from being down 2-0 thank to two homers by Jeff Clement! Batista gets a win, and Morrow scoops up another save. Dickey threw a solid game, and allowed the rest of the club time to wake up and get involved. At the very least we’ll split the series with the Tigers which is a huge improvement over our last couple of series with them.

Jeff Clement is showing the shadow of a beard, perhaps his way of communicating with R.A. Dickey on a higher plane. Whatever it is, it seems to be working. If the promotional department at the Mariners organization can find a night to give out J.J. Putz soul patches, can they call back the same people and have them make beards for a Dickey give-away night? If that wouldn’t fill the seats, I don’t know what would.

Clement gets the Gold Star tonight, not just for his two smashes, but for his great play at the plate to nab Dane Sardinha trying to go second to home on a single.
